Not only does an abundance of lint make your clothes dryer less efficient, but dryer ducts packed with lint are also a common cause of house fires.  With a few tools, it is relatively easy to clean out dryer vents before they become a fire hazard. It is also possible to call one of the duct cleaning companies sarasota for help if you would rather not tackle the job alone.

Disconnect the Dryer

Before you can clean the duct, the dryer needs to be unplugged from the wall outlet and the vent hose should be detached from the back of the dryer. If you have a natural gas dryer, be very careful not to kink or loosen the gas line when you move the dryer away from the wall. If you are concerned about this step, call a professional for help.

Vacuum the Debris

The next step is to suck out the lint. You can buy a kit at home stores that includes a round brush on a long handle and a flat, plastic tube that attaches to a vacuum cleaner hose. Use the tube attached to the vacuum cleaner to suck out as much of the dust and dirt as you can from the vent inside the dryer as possible. You can take the brush outside and clean out the other end of the hose. Be sure to take the vent cover off first.

Reconnect Everything

After the lint has been cleared from the dryer, reconnect the hose and move the dryer back into place. Remember to be careful not to dislodge the gas line if there is one. Plug the dryer back into the outlet and you are ready to go.

With the right tools and a bit of know-how, cleaning your clothes dryer is a relatively simple, although vitally important, process. Your dryer will work better, and you will sleep more soundly.
